19.05.2010 - IBIS partners prepare for the PARPA process
The Government is shortly to announce the results of the 2009 Household Survey (Inquérito aos Agregados Familiares, IAF), the main instrument to measure poverty in Mozambique. The data from the survey is of the highest importance for the formulation of new poverty reduction strategies for the period 2010 – 2014. While waiting for the publication of this data, IBIS and its partners in the Citizenship Programme have been looking into the various issues linked to the efficiency of the two Action Plans for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty (Planos de Acção para Redução da Pobreza Absoluta (PARPA) I and II) and to the future PARPA 2010 – 2014.

19.05.2010 - Community Centres a big advantage for the communities
The IBIS Community Development Centres in Zambezia Province have been of great use to the members of the communities, in which they are located. The Centres were established to train disfavoured young people, children and women in defining their own life projects and to participate in political and socio-economical life in the country.

19.05.2010 - Aid and budget transparency in Mozambique is insufficient
Aid and budget transparency in Mozambique is insufficient. This is the overall conclusion in a new report, launched by the Informal Governance Group and Alliance 2015. These international non-governmental organisations hosted on the 5th of May a Round table at the Hotel VIP in Maputo, to discuss aid and budget transparency in Mozambique with representatives from civil society, government and aid donors.

19.05.2010 - 1 Goal – Education for All. Financing Now!
This is the slogan for the Education for All campaign 2010, which encourages reflection on the financing of education. This theme could not be taken up at a more opportune moment, as the world is facing the consequences of a financial crisis. For this reason, it becomes important to say out loud that children must not be denied the right to an education just because it is alleged that financial resources are scarce. Education must always be given priority.

19.05.2010 - IBIS’ work showed good results in 2009
Strengthened school boards, more partners, better teaching and stronger partners to take part in local governance processes have been some of the mains results in 2009, IBIS Mozambique concludes in its annual performance report.

19.05.2010 - New IBIS programme will support access to information.
Improving access to information and ensuring freedom of expression in Mozambique are areas, where IBIS will increase its support over the next 5 years.

16.04.2010 - MASC and DANIDA funds new projects of Ibis Mozambique.
In the first months of 2010, MASC as well as Danida has committed to fund two new projects with Ibis and its partners.

16.04.2010 - The education programme evaluated by critical friends
In 2009, the implementation of the thematic education programme was very successful. During the monitoring the programme in October 2009 by the so-called Critical Friends, the revitalisation and training of school councils, the creation of a school council forum and the training of teachers were selected as the highlights of programme achievements.

16.04.2010 - Strong partners in Cuamba
In the beginning of this year, the Cuamba municipality in Niassa Province experienced a very unusual event. People, mainly vendors at the local markets, rose up against the municipal government because of its unilateral decision to increase the daily fee for renting a stall at the market by 100%.

16.04.2010 - New Director for the Citizenship Programme
In January, Mr Silvestre Baessa took up the positions as Director of the thematic prrogramme Building Citizenship in Mozambique. He has previously worked for the Mozambican Group Against Debt, GMD (Grupo Mocambicano de Dívida).

16.04.2010 - A significant change in Milange
Here we bring the story of the most significant change, which Ibis Mozambique chose for the Education Programme in 2009. The story, which is about the quality of education, was told by Feli Gemusse, vice-headteacher at Carico Primary School in Milange District: “As a teacher, and in the name of all my colleagues, I can say that things have improved quite a lot here with the implementation of the Ibis sub-programme. I feel that we are all more responsible and committed to the teaching and learning process.

16.04.2010 - New partnership with Khanimambo
In December 2009, Ibis initiated a new partnership with the association Khanimambo with the long term objective to delegate the management of the Centro Criança Feliz. The Centre now has a plan to strengthen and bring continuity to the future of the children and families, through the integration of a competent local partner.

30.03.2010 - Ibis signs agreement “Women in Politics”
March 30th, Ibis and Forum Mulher signed a new partnership agreement for the project “Women in Politics”.

Alliance2015 seeks an experienced and dynamic development practitioner, who can support Alliance2015 in enhancing and strengthening its position in international development cooperation.

20.10.2009 - Positive circles of support
Fátima António is an orphan of 12 years, who today is very proud and happy to be back in school. However, this is an all new situation, because since 2007 she has not attended school because the school was very far away, and her labour was needed in the house where she was living. She got very surprised one day when the president of the school council, some members of the evangelic church and from the women’s association AMER came to visit her.

20.10.2009 - The Beckgaard Foundation supports Centro Criança Feliz with almost a million Danish Kroner
The Danish Beckggard Foundation has decided to support Ibis’ Centro Criança Feliz in the outskirts of Maputo. The center will receive almost 1 million Danish Kroner over the next two years.

19.10.2009 - From Ibis Global: Half of Danish School children know Mozambique.
Ibis Denmark had this year put the spot light on Mozambique for the Education for All Campaign in the last week of April. The focus was on creating more Happy Schools in Zambézia.

19.06.2009 - Conference Report 'No Caminho Certo?' - 'On the Right Track?'
On 25 and 26 November 2008, over 260 participants representing all regions of the country gathered at a national conference, entitled 'On the Right Track? The Rights and Living Conditions of Mozambique’s Children, in Maputo.'

17.02.2009 - HIV/AIDS: From Thematic Program to Mainstreaming
“The programme has managed to mobilise interest and commitment from various stakeholders at both province and district level and has addressed the issue of HIV/AIDS from a wide range of angles pertaining to prevention, care, stigmatisation and treatment”

The 19th of November are the municipal elections. Ibis is working with Forum Mulher ot make a national civic education campaign targeting women to vote in the elections. Read more about the project Women in Democracy here

On September 1st, Ibis Mozambique received its new country director.

In April 2008, Ibis-Mozambique and the Mozambican women network, Fórum Mulher, launches a new project called Women in Democracy. This project will be a part of Ibis-Mozambique´s new thematic program, Building Citizenship in Mozambique.

Advisors and coordinators will always be near the Regional Office between trips, and naturally will be better acquainted with what is happening at the organization.

In order to save costs on house rent the IBIS office in Lichinga will move to the premises of the IBIS guest house, also in Lichinga.

29.03.2007 - IBIS Sub-regional Office in Nampula closes
By the end of April 2007 the sub-regional office in Nampula will be closed. The programme coordinators as well as both the advisers and the graphic workshop will all be transferred to a new office in Maputo.

18.10.2006 - Guidelines for the presentation of small scale project
Ibis Mozambique reserves part of the yearly budget to support smaller projects outside of our thematic programs. Ibis calls these the Small Scale Projects.

The situation of orphans in Mozambique is extremely preoccupying. Factors as poverty, poor access to the education and the health, abuse and violation of basic rights characterize the situation of the orphans on the Country.
