Ibis

Ibis is a Danish non-governmental, non-profit development organization based on democratic principles. Ibis has its members, board and headquarters in Denmark. We have programs in Africa and Latin America and facilitate networks between the South and the North.

Ibis began as a student movement in Europe in the 1960s, and its early operations in Africa were linked to the anti-colonial and anti-Apartheid movements in Southern Africa. Today, Ibis still operates in Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, South Africa and Ghana. Ibis has worked in Mozambique since 1976. In the first years we were mainly involved in physical planning in the state sector.

After the Peace Accord of 1992 Ibis rehabilitated schools, secondary roads, health posts and water supply systems in partnership with rural populations and local administrations.

Since 2000 Ibis has focused on education for development in rural areas, support for community radios in rural areas and the fight against HIV/AIDS. Capacity building, education and training of civil society are integrated into all Ibis' projects in Mozambique.
